Thousands of Indian Union Muslim League activists and
non-resident Keralites from the northern districts of the State,
including Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad, reached the city to
participate in a rally organised by the party in protest against the
‘Cruelties of Air India against non-resident Keralites’ here on Tuesday.
The
protesters held placards with messages reflecting their anger and
frustration against repeated flight cancellations and route diversions
by the national airline. The rally began from Stadium Junction at 4.30
p.m. and ended at the Muthalakkulam grounds after going round the city.
A public meeting followed. It was inaugurated by IUML leader Panakkad Syed Sadiqali Shihab Thangal.
Besides
representatives and leaders of IUML feeder organisations, including the
West Asia-based Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre and Pravasi League, IUML
leaders from all the northern districts of the State participated in the
rally. M.P. Abdussamad Samadani, MLA; P.K.K. Bava, C.T. Ahammedali,
V.K. Abdul Khadar Maulavi, P.V. Abdul Wahab, and T.P.M. Sahir spoke.
Similar protests were organised by the IUML in other places, including Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram.
